Rancilio Silvia

Our machine is the Rancilio Silvia.

We looked at several machines, including models from Gaggia and DeLonghi. In the end we decided to go for the Rancilio Silvia.

I think the decisive element was that this machine signals a very clear feeling of hand craft and quality.

It’s a very simple machine – it’s manual.

And yes we made som internet research:

We bought the machine at Drury’s Tea & Coffee shop in London. The guy in the shop, made a short and straight forward introduction to the machine. It was actually great. Our readings on the internet had showed that this machine has a quite big crowd of very dedicated users, who have more or less complicated instructions on how to use machine.

Basically we were told: fill the machine with water, turn it on, wait to the lamp indicates it’s warm, put coffee in the portafilter; and on you go. COOL!! He believed in our intelligence. No attempt to make this to a in-crowd speciality. It was totally up to us to make our own experiences ond develop our coffee making skills.

And so it was. When unpacking the machine it felt like unpacking a very solid industrial machine. No manuals followed – only safety instructions.

So our first cups of espresso from the new machine were made.
